Parker Bowie Complex
1488 Parker Bowie Road
Iva, South Carolina 2965
Iva Recreation Association's Parker Bowie Complex was opened and dedicated on Saturday, March 27, 2010. The dream of an athletic complex became a reality through the gift given by Marie Bowie and through the work of Iva Recreation officers, board member and community members.
Hundreds of players, parents, community members and invited guests gathered to celebrate the generosity of Marie Bowie and to listen to how the dream came to fruition. The dedication ceremony was bathed in prayers for the safety of our children and over their time together.
The chilly weather did not cool the warm feelings as older baseball and softball players cheered for younger wee ball and tee ball players, as old friends chatted and new friends were made, as baseball and softball teams battled it out on the field, as countless photos were snapped and as community members went home with a renewed sense of pride in our community.
Now, as we embark on the third year of activity through the Bowie Athletic Complex, we can stop and reflect on the lives that have been impacted through the facility. We can hear the cheers of parents and players, see the smiles of those who gave their all and won, wipe the tears of those who gave their all but came up short in a given game. We can remember with thanks Marie Bowie for her gift and express thanks for the life of Dan McCullough and his tireless efforts, and we can continue to grow together as a community whose goal is to inspire and encourage all who find themselves on the fields or in the stands at the Parker Bowie Athletic Complex.
